SANTA CRUZ DAS FLORES, Azores — A 5.3 magnitude quake struck near Santa Cruz das Flores around midday Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor jolted at 13:13 UTC (11:13 local time), with its epicenter approximately 132 km east-northeast of Santa Cruz das Flores and a depth of 7 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.5 event, but later downgraded it to 5.3.
