Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Hirara, Japan on Feb. 27

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake hit near Hirara Friday morning.

The tremor, which jolted the area at 02:54 UTC (10:54 local time), was centered about 57 km north-northwest of Hirara. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Another magnitude 4.9 tremor was detected in the region in the past week; it also occurred close to Hirara one day ago.
