Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Izu Islands, Japan region on Jan. 17

Saturday morning, a 5.0 magnitude quake was detected near Izu Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 00:16 UTC (09:16 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake rattled at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter of Izu Islands.
