Update: Earthquake hits region close to Kokopo, Papua New Guinea on Dec. 29 – 5.1 magnitude registered

A 5.1 magnitude quake was recorded near Kokopo Monday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted the area at 11:40 UTC (21:40 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated approximately 110 km south-southeast of Kokopo.
