Update: Dec. 21 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake registered near Balleny Islands region

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake jolted close to Balleny Islands region at midnight on Sunday.

The tremor shook the area at 13:12 UTC (00:12 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located of Balleny Islands region. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
