According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake rattled near Mutsu Tuesday afternoon.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the area at 09:09 UTC (18:09 local time). The epicenter was situated about 89 km east of Mutsu, at a depth of 60 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later downgraded to 5.0.
