HUALIEN CITY, Hualien County — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake shook close to Hualien City Monday evening.
A tremor jolted the area at 11:24 UTC (19:24 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated approximately 21 km southeast of Hualien City and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.
