HUALIEN CITY, Hualien County — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake shook close to Hualien City Monday evening.

A tremor jolted the area at 11:24 UTC (19:24 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated approximately 21 km southeast of Hualien City and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.

Weak shaking was observed, with reports from cities such as Yungho and Taichung indicating that the earthquake was felt, according to the USGS DYFI report.
