According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.9 magnitude quake occurred near Merizo Village Tuesday afternoon.

The tremor, which hit the area at 07:37 UTC (17:37 local time), was centered about 190 km west-southwest of Merizo Village. It occurred at a depth of 89 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.8 event, but later upgraded it to 5.9.
