The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Friday evening.

The tremor, which jolted the area at 08:05 UTC (19:05 local time), was centered roughly 166 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.
