Update: Aug. 29 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake reported near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia

Friday morning, a 5.2 magnitude quake was registered close to Severo-Kuril’sk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook at 22:58 UTC (10:58 local time), with its epicenter situated roughly 70 km east-northeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and a depth of 80 km.

Tremors last week

In the past week, there have been three tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The largest, measuring 6.0, occurred in the same region two days earlier.
