Seismic activity on July 30: Earthquake near Vilyuchinsk, Russia detected – magnitude 5.2

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake jolted near Vilyuchinsk at midday on Wednesday.

At 02:24 UTC (13:24 local time), the region was struck by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter about 169 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Tremors last week

During the past week, there have been five earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, four of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 6.2, occurred in the same area prior to this quake.
