Seismic activity on July 30: Earthquake near Vilyuchinsk, Russia detected – magnitude 5.2

A 5.2 magnitude quake was reported close to Vilyuchinsk around midday Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 00:24 UTC (11:24 local time), was centered about 144 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk. It occurred at a depth of 35 km.

Tremors past week

Last week, seven tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher have been registered in the region, two of them larger than magnitude 8. The largest one was a 8.0 earthquake that was recorded close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky one day ago.
