Earthquake of magnitude 5.1 detected near Vilyuchinsk, Russia on July 30

Around midday Wednesday, a 5.1 magnitude quake was reported close to Vilyuchinsk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor shook the region at 00:07 UTC (11:07 local time). The epicenter was located roughly 136 km southeast of Vilyuchinsk, at a depth of 35 km.

Tremors last week

During the past week, the area has experienced eight tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or above, two of them larger than magnitude 8. The biggest, a 8.0 magnitude quake, slammed close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky one day ago.
