A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Severo-Kuril’sk Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor, which struck the area at 18:35 UTC (05:35 local time), was centered about 247 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
