Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake registered near Padangsidempuan, Indonesia on Aug. 7

SOUTH TAPANULI REGENCY, North Sumatra — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Padangsidempuan Thursday night.

The tremor, which shook the area at 15:28 UTC (22:28 local time), was centered about 42 km west of Padangsidempuan. It occurred at a depth of 92 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.3 but later downgraded to 5.0.
