Update: Earthquake measuring 5.1 jolts area near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Aug. 3

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake hit close to Severo-Kuril’sk Sunday afternoon.

The tremor struck at 04:01 UTC (15:01 local time), with its epicenter located roughly 204 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Seven tremors with a magnitude 5.5 or above have been detected in the region last week. The most significant was a 6.2 magnitude earthquake recorded in the same region three days earlier.
