The tremor, which jolted the area at 03:16 UTC (14:16 local time), was centered about 155 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.4 event, but later downgraded it to 5.3.
