At midday on Wednesday, a 5.3 magnitude quake was detected close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor shook the region at 01:11 UTC (12:11 local time). The epicenter was situated roughly 128 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.4 event, but later downgraded it to 5.3.
