Update: Earthquake strikes region near Pematangsiantar, Indonesia on Aug. 15 – 6.9 magnitude reported

SIMALUNGUN REGENCY, North Sumatra — A 6.9 magnitude quake hit close to Pematangsiantar on Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the area at 10:54 UTC (17:54 local time). The epicenter was about 7 km north-northwest of Pematangsiantar, at a depth of 183 km.
