Update: 3.0 magnitude earthquake shakes near Calipatria, CA on July 11

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA — A 3.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Calipatria Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor rattled at 1:18 a.m., with its epicenter situated about 7 miles west-northwest of Calipatria and a depth of just 3 miles.

Past week’s quakes

Over the last week, there have been two tremors, greater than magnitude 2.5, in the region. The largest, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake, was detected near Borrego Springs prior to this quake, while a smaller 2.5 magnitude quake was felt close to Progreso, B.C. on July 4.
