Update: 5.3 magnitude earthquake registered near Lata, Solomon Islands on Aug. 23

A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Lata on Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor hit the area at 21:32 UTC (08:32 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 120 km west of Lata and occurred at a depth of 10 km.
