Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude registered near Ozernovskiy, Russia on July 30

A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Ozernovskiy Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which hit the area at 03:22 UTC (14:22 local time), was centered roughly 192 km east-southeast of Ozernovskiy. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Ozernovskiy region hit by two tremors over the week

Last week, the area has experienced two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5, both centered in the same region. The larger, a 5.6 magnitude event, was detected prior to this quake, while the other, at magnitude 4.9, shook on July 30.
