Seismic activity on Aug. 27: Earthquake close to Kimbe, Papua New Guinea reported – magnitude 5.0

POMIO DISTRICT, East New Britain Province — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake shook near Kimbe around midday Wednesday.

The tremor jolted the area at 01:31 UTC (11:31 local time). It occurred at a depth of 92 km with the epicenter located about 104 km east of Kimbe.
