The National Weather Service released a dust storm warning at 9:07 p.m. on Tuesday in effect until 10:30 p.m. The warning is for Borden, Glasscock, Howard, Mitchell, Reagan and Scurry counties.

“At 9:06 p.m., a dust channel was near Coahoma, or 15 miles northeast of Big Spring, moving northeast at 50 mph,” according to the NWS. “This includes Interstate 20 between mile markers 164 and 228.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Sand Springs, Lomax, Coahoma, Big Lake, Cuthbert, Lake Colorado City, Lake Colorado City State Park, Big Spring, Dunn, Inadale, Forsan, Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark, Knott, Vealmoor, Snyder, Saint Lawrence, Best, Luther, Westbrook and Elbow.

“Dangerous life-threatening travel,” states the NWS. “There is no safe place on a highway when a dust storm hits. Visibility can be lost immediately, making it difficult or impossible to slow down and avoid stopped vehicles. Delay travel, or safely exit the highway before the dust storm arrives.”
