On Tuesday at 2:25 p.m. the National Weather Service released an updated blowing dust advisory in effect until Wednesday at 1 a.m. The advisory is for Davis Mountains and Davis Mountains Foothills as well as Loving County.

The NWS adds to prepare for, “Visibility between one-quarter and one mile in blowing dust.”

“Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. A sudden gust of wind could drop visibility to near zero instantly. In addition to reduced visibility, strong winds will be hazardous to trailers and other high-profile vehicles. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles like campers, vans, and tractor trailers. Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects. Damaging winds may topple a few trees and possibly knock out some power lines. Damage to weaker structures is also possible,” comments the NWS. “Persons with respiratory problems should make preparations to stay indoors until the storm passes. Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility to near zero. If you encounter blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn the lights all the way off and keep foot off the brake pedal. Remember, ‘Pull Aside, Stay Alive’. Slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance between you and other vehicles. Use caution when driving as blowing dust may reduce visibility.”
