On Tuesday at 2:25 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated blowing dust advisory in effect until Wednesday at 1 a.m. The advisory is for Reeves County Plains as well as Gaines, Dawson, Borden, Andrews, Martin, Howard, Winkler, Ector, Midland and Ward counties.

The NWS says to be ready for, “Visibility between one-quarter and one mile in blowing dust.”

“Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. A sudden gust of wind could drop visibility to near zero instantly. In addition to reduced visibility, strong winds will be hazardous to trailers and other high-profile vehicles. Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects,” states the NWS. “Persons with respiratory problems should make preparations to stay indoors until the storm passes. Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility to near zero. If you encounter blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn the lights all the way off and keep foot off the brake pedal. Remember, ‘Pull Aside, Stay Alive’. Slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance between you and other vehicles. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution and keep both hands on the steering wheel. Use caution when driving as blowing dust may reduce visibility.”
