Update: Seismic activity on July 4 – 2.5 magnitude earthquake near Walnut Creek, CA reported

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A 2.5 magnitude quake was registered near Walnut Creek at midday on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor rattled the region at 11:16 a.m. The epicenter was located roughly 1 mile northwest of Walnut Creek, at a depth of 5 miles.

Light to moderate shaking has been recorded and residents reported experiencing the tremor in a couple of cities, including Martinez and Concord according to the USGS DYFI report.
