SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 3.7 magnitude quake occurred near Borrego Springs Thursday afternoon.

At 5:16 p.m., the region was shaken by a tremor. The earthquake rattled at a depth of just 3 miles, with its epicenter roughly 3 miles west of Borrego Springs.

Light shaking has been detected and people reported experiencing the earthquake in multiple cities, including Julian, Warner Springs and Borrego Springs according to the USGS DYFI report.

Past week’s quakes

Over the last week, there have been two earthquakes, greater than magnitude 2.5, nearby. The largest, a 2.6 magnitude quake, was registered close to Palomar Observatory two days earlier, while a smaller 2.5 magnitude quake was felt near Julian on July 7.
