Update: Seismic activity on July 16 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake close to Lospalos, Timor Leste detected

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Lospalos Wednesday morning.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 16:02 UTC (01:02 local time). The epicenter was situated approximately 150 km north-northeast of Lospalos, at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Two quakes near Lospalos past week

Last week, there were two tremors, above magnitude 2.5, centered nearby. Both were registered in the same area where the larger one was a 4.5 earthquake that struck six days ago. The other, of magnitude 4.3, hit on July 11.
