A 5.3 magnitude quake was detected close to Yilan Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 13:10 UTC (21:10 local time), the region was struck by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of 116 km, with its epicenter approximately 17 km east-northeast of Yilan.

Those who felt the quake are encouraged to report it through the USGS Felt Report form. So far, the agency has collected 60 online responses from individuals saying that they felt the tremor. According to the USGS DYFI report, people in a number of cities, including Taichung, Hsinchu, Chungli and Taoyuan, reported feeling moderate shaking from the earthquake.
