ELKO COUNTY, NV — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Valmy at midday on Saturday.
A tremor shook the area at 6:59 p.m. (11:59 a.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated about 32 miles northeast of Valmy and occurred at a depth of 5 miles. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.3 but later downgraded to 5.0.

Weak to light shaking has been recorded and people reported feeling the earthquake in several cities, including Nampa, Spring Creek and Winnemucca according to the USGS DYFI report.

21 earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or greater have been registered in the region over the last week. The biggest, a 3.9 magnitude quake, jolted the same region prior to this quake.
