Update: July 13 – 4.0 magnitude earthquake reported near Olancha, CA

INYO COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 4.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Olancha Sunday morning.

A tremor rattled the area at 5:27 a.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 8 miles south-southwest of Olancha and occurred at a depth of just 0.27 miles.

Those who felt the quake are encouraged to report it via the USGS Felt Report form. The agency has so far received 10 reports via its online form from people who indicate they felt the tremor. Weak to light shaking has been detected and people reported experiencing the earthquake in Lone Pine according to the USGS DYFI report.
