Update: Feb. 10 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake registered close to Pole Ojea, Puerto Rico

LLANOS COSTA, Cabo Rojo — A 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Pole Ojea Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit the area at 20:49 UTC (15:49 local time). It occurred at a depth of 21 km with the epicenter located approximately 101 km west-southwest of Pole Ojea. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.5 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.

Tremors last week

During the past week, there have been three tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The biggest, a 3.4 magnitude quake, was detected near Boca de Yuma two days ago.
