Update: Earthquake of 5.2 magnitude detected close to Sand Point, AK on July 16

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake hit close to Sand Point at midday on Wednesday.

A tremor shook the area at 10:10 p.m. (11:10 a.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 63 miles south-southeast of Sand Point and occurred at a depth of 13 miles.
