BANGGAI REGENCY, Central Sulawesi — Saturday afternoon, a 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Luwuk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor struck the area at 06:53 UTC (14:53 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated roughly 53 km east-northeast of Luwuk. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Two quakes of equal strength this week
In the past week, there have been two tremors above magnitude 2.5 in the region, both registering 4.5. One occurred close to Gorontalo three days earlier, and the other rattled near Luwuk on July 14.
