Update: Earthquake measuring 5.3 jolts area near Sand Point, AK on July 17

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Sand Point Thursday afternoon.

A tremor shook the region at 2:09 a.m. (3:09 p.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 57 miles south-southeast of Sand Point and occurred at a depth of 18 miles.
