Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake hits close to Sand Point, AK on July 17

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—Thursday afternoon, a 5.2 magnitude quake was detected near Sand Point, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor jolted the area at 2:09 a.m. (3:09 p.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated approximately 62 miles south-southeast of Sand Point and occurred at a depth of 18 miles.
