Update: Earthquake measuring 2.7 rattles area near Deep Springs, CA on July 5

INYO COUNTY, CA — A 2.7 magnitude quake was detected close to Deep Springs Saturday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor shook at 3:29 p.m., with its epicenter positioned about 5 miles southeast of Deep Springs and a depth of 6 miles.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, there have been seven tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest one was a 4.8 earthquake that hit near Big Pine six days earlier.

• 4.5, south-southeast of Deep Springs on June 28
• 4.3, east-northeast of Big Pine on June 28
• 3.9, southeast of Deep Springs on June 28
