Update: Earthquake measuring 2.7 rattles area near Deep Springs, CA on July 5

INYO COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 2.7 magnitude quake occurred near Deep Springs Saturday afternoon.

The tremor, which shook the region at 3:29 p.m., was centered roughly 5 miles southeast of Deep Springs. It occurred at a depth of 6 miles.

Quakes last week

In the past week, seven tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above have been recorded in the area. The strongest, a 4.8 magnitude quake, hit close to Big Pine six days ago.
