A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Dunhuang on Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor rattled the area at 09:49 UTC (17:49 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 273 km south-southeast of Dunhuang and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Last week, there have been three tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The largest one was a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that shook in the same region on Aug. 19.
