The National Weather Service issued an updated dust advisory at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday in effect until 7:15 p.m. for El Paso County.

“At 5:09 p.m., an area of blowing dust was moving over West El Paso,” explains the NWS. “Hazardous travel.”

Locations impacted by the advisory include West El Paso, East El Paso, Central El Paso, Northeast El Paso, Far East El Paso, Mission Valley, Chaparral, Horizon City, Clint, Santa Teresa, Anthony, Vado, Sunland Park, Canutillo, Afton, Anthony Gap, Berino, San Elizario, Vinton and San Miguel. This includes the following highways: Interstate 10 in New Mexico between mile markers 153 and 164. Interstate 10 in Texas between mile markers 1 and 43. Highway 54 in New Mexico between mile markers 1 and 21.

The NWS adds, “Blowing dust brings reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving conditions. If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
