Update: Dec. 7 – 5.4 magnitude earthquake recorded close to Yakutat, AK

YAKUTAT CITY AND BOROUGH, AK — A 5.4 magnitude quake was detected close to Yakutat Sunday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck the area at 4:19 a.m. (9:19 p.m. local time). It occurred at a depth of just 0.24 miles with the epicenter located approximately 57 miles north of Yakutat. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.2 but later upgraded to 5.4.
