A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Ruteng on Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor shook the area at 08:01 UTC (16:01 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter roughly 44 km north of Ruteng.

Eight quakes with a magnitude 5.5 or above have been detected in the region over the last week. The largest, measuring 5.9, struck near Labuan Bajo on Aug. 15.
