SAN JOSÉ, Escuintla Department — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake struck near Puerto San José around midnight Friday.

The tremor, which hit the area at 06:49 UTC (00:49 local time), was centered about 102 km south of Puerto San José. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
