Aug. 1: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude detected near Vilyuchinsk, Russia

A 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Vilyuchinsk Friday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 11:29 UTC (22:29 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated about 174 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

In the past week, there have been 10 tremors of magnitude 5.5 or greater centered nearby, 10 of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 6.2 earthquake that struck the same region two days ago.
