Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake strikes close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on March 24

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 22:35 UTC (09:35 local time). The epicenter was roughly 168 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.9 but later upgraded to 5.0.
