NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — A 5.9 magnitude quake shook near Hihifo on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
At 22:26 UTC (10:26 local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 13 km, with its epicenter approximately 110 km east-northeast of Hihifo. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.7 event, but later upgraded it to 5.9.
