Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake recorded near Mungaa, Tanzania on Aug. 8

IKUNGI, Singida Region — A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Mungaa Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 07:38 UTC (10:38 local time). The epicenter was situated approximately 23 km east-southeast of Mungaa, at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.8 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
