The National Hurricane Center’s 4 p.m. Thursday update reported that Tropical Storm Fay is in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,020 miles west-southwest of the Azores. With maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, the system is moving to the west at 6 mph.

“Some strengthening is possible overnight before weakening likely commences by Friday afternoon,” according to meteorologists.

Yesterday (Wednesday)

Fay became a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph after intensifying from a tropical depression.
