A 5.3 magnitude quake was recorded near South Sandwich Islands region Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 03:31 UTC (01:31 local time), was centered of South Sandwich Islands region. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
